The Afton Hose Company Emergency Squad is a small Fire
Department based EMS service that is, of course, 100 % volunteer, as is the
fire department. For the last two years, the Squad has been working on
recruiting and retention by planning open houses and chicken BBQs during
recruit NY week to try to bring the community inside the station and show the
benefits of volunteering.
In the past, the squad and fire departments have
suffered from a shortage of members causing a concern about having sufficient
personnel to provide firefighting and ambulance services. We are in a time
where volunteer services are very much in need of additional members. With the
help of the Community, we hope to increase the size of both our firefighter and
EMT families. We are presently planning to hold
an “open house” on April 13th. from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
There will be tours of the station and an opportunity
to inspect the equipment and have any questions answered. We are planning to
have a special fun activity for the children. It is also an opportunity for
your kids to sit in a fire engine so that you can take their picture.
In addition, there will be a chicken BBQ from 11:00
a.m. until sold out. Volunteer service can be very rewarding. Emergency squad
training can also be very valuable for a family emergency. WE WILL TRAIN YOU!!
